Some of my work from this semester:
In the wall of sound assignment we started off by picking tracks that would complete our 32 measure song. Once we selected our tracks we were able to cut out pieces of the tracks making each 4 measures similar but different. We were able to enhance our songs by adjusting the volume, panning it out, and adding other automations. What I learned from this assignment was a way to start a new song and to build up to the perfect 5/8ths golden rule. I learned how to enhance flow as well.
In the drum beat assignment we started off by creating a kick pattern that had differences in every other measure. We then added in a snare track which had a varying pattern as well. Next, we added in a hi-hat track which had an enhanced beat every 4th measure. Lastly, I added a small melody just for something to help fill the beat. What I learned from this is how to create a beat so that in the future when creating pieces of music I do not have to rely on provided tracks. This also allows me to have more control and creativity in my future compositions.
In the thirty second podcast assignment we had to make a podcast introducing one of our favorite songs in the form of a podcast. To make the podcast we recorded ourselves saying our names and the title of our chosen song. After this we inserted an mp.3 recording of a part of our song and ended the podcast by recording an outro. Through this assignment we learned how to properly record audio and how to insert mp.3 audio into Soundtrap.
In the modal beats assignment we had to create a beat using skills from the drum beat assignment. In another track we had to create a chord sequence to go with our created beats. We added other enhancements to the beat and I specifically added claps that synched with the beat. We also added imported audio from provided websites as another form of enhancement to our beats. What I learned from this assignment was how to utilize resources outside of Soundtrap and we learned the basis of how to form and create a chord. We also learned how to use these chords to create a sequence using other chords.
In the four measure changes assignment we created a simple song using a beat, melody, and bass. We learned to create breaks in the tracks, automate the tracks such as using the pan and adding other effects, and creating flow. The enhancements and changes we made in the four measure changes assignment helped us learn to utilize flow and create better mood.
In the rushing back remix assignment we added other tracks into the appropriate sections such as the verses, chorus, and bridge. We used the wall of sound technique in each section then cut out bricks. We also created variations in the sections by creating flow and enhancing the mood. In this assignment I learned how to transition between sections of a song, utilize flow and mood, and maintain a theme within the song.
